Reception: Curious Publishing and Lounge Residency Presents:Tierra de Hormigas "Land of Ants" by Gabriela Diaz

"The structure of ants: a female based population of over 100,000 worker ants collectively found within different task groups to advance the colony as a whole. They are built to create complex underground structures, maintain/sanitize nests, become a part of the defensive lines, and formulate ways to transport food/resources. Through their strong sense of community based work, they are able to accomplish these responsibilities for the entirety of the colony.

My association to the ant analogy is rooted in my identity, family history, and culture. Zicapa (translates to Tierra de Hormigas), is my village in Guerrero Mexico, where my parents originate from. This exhibit showcases similarities of ants to the people of Zicapa, mainly the women, which portrays the complexity of their resilience and their outstanding role in building safe spaces to support and empower each other." - Gabriela Diaz
