Philip Latimer Dike – The San Antonio Hospital Collection: Early California Watercolors | through September 16, 2023

Watercolor artist Phil Dike, who grew up in Redlands, gained prominence as a watercolorist and teacher at Chouinard School of Art, Scripps College and the Claremont Graduate School. The dominant subject matter of his work was the sea and man’s relationship to

it. Moving from realistically-depicted beach and harbor scenes in the 1930s and 1940s, his work gradually became more abstract, eventually becoming mystical forms and patterns.

Spotlight Gallery

Merging – William Breer | through September 9, 2023

From the artist: I made my first pot in 1964 when I gathered clay from a puddle after a thunder shower in Mesa Verde National Park. I fired it in an evening campfire shared with others working as ranger/archaeologists. In 2018 I became a resident artist at AMOCA (American Museum of Ceramic Art) in Pomona.

Anachronism with a Side of Red Sneakers – Chick Curtis | September 14 - October 21, 2023

From the artist: My father had a great sense of humor; my mother was a great artist. I got a little bit of that DNA from both of them. This exhibit contains many things: humor, irony, fantasy, mystery and anachronism – all the elements to build a story by anyone with an imagination.

Cloudy Days – Jeni Bate | October 26 - December 16, 2023

From the artist: As the world warms, more moisture evaporates into the atmosphere, creating more clouds and cloudy days. Clouds can bring destructive floods or life-giving rain for crops. We have changed the atmosphere we live in, and now everything must adapt to a warmer, wetter, cloudier sky. My message is to help people realize our place on this planet and appreciate and care for the sky that is our next, our every, and ultimately, our final breath.

——————

Since 1941, the Chaffey Community Museum of Art has been sharing the gift of visual art with residents of the inland communities of Southern California. First founded as an art association, CCMA has since grown into an important regional museum that provides public access to fine art and supports the local artistic community.

The mission of the Chaffey Community Museum of Art is multi-dimensional. Like all museums, CCMA’s Permanent Collection is held in the public trust, and selections are always on display in the Museum’s Line Gallery so they can be enjoyed by museum visitors.

Admission to the Museum is free.

In addition to the art walk, CCMA’s regular hours of operation are Thursday – Sunday, noon to 4 PM.
